General comment on data set The ferrous metals separated during the treatment are sent for recovery for the production of secondary steel, after a preliminary phase of selection and pressing carried out in metal sorting plants. The treatment of ferrous metals is simulated in SimaPro through a process built ad hoc on the basis of work by Rigamonti et al., (2015) in which it was hypothesized that metal waste is sent to a plant in which first a sorting of the material is made (efficiency 91%) and then the actual one recycling operation (efficiency 88.1%); the substitution ratio between secondary and primary steel is assumed 1:1 by mass. The distance for the delivery of metal waste to the sorting plant was assumed equal to 10 km, data obtained from the analysis of the MUDs of the recycling plants that declare the quantity of ferrous metals separated during treatment and their respective fate. The rejects of the first selection phase a metal waste is subjected to are disposed of in landfills for aggregates, assuming that they are composed from cement residues adhered to the iron bars. The transport of ferrous metals from C&D recycling plants to sorting of waste from selection to landfill and of metals from selection to the mill take place through large trucks> 32 tons (of which 50% Euro3 and 50% Euro4), for a distance equal to 50 km (Rigamonti et al., 2015).

Technology description including background system The ferrous metals separated during the treatment are sent for recovery to produce secondary steel after a preliminary phase of selection and pressing carried out in metal sorting plants. The treatment of ferrous metals is simulated in SimaPro through a process built ad hoc based on work by Rigamonti et al. (2015), in which it was hypothesised that metal waste is sent to a plant in which the first sorting of the material is made (efficiency 91%) and then the actual one recycling operation (efficiency 88.1%); the substitution ratio between secondary and primary steel is assumed 1:1 by mass. The distance for the delivery of metal waste to the sorting plant was supposed to equal 10 km, data obtained from the analysis of the MUDs of the recycling plants that declare the number of ferrous metals separated during treatment and their respective fate. The rejects of the first metal waste selection phase are subjected to being disposed of in landfills for aggregates, assuming that they are composed of cement residues adhered to the iron bars. The transport of ferrous metals from C&D recycling plants to the sorting of waste from selection to landfill and of metals from selection to the mill take place through large trucks> 32 tons (of which 50% Euro3 and 50% Euro4), for a distance equal to 50 km (Rigamonti et al., 2015). Good the Reliability; Very Good the Geographical representativeness; Very Good the Time representativeness; Very Good the Technological representativeness.
